Gospel Principles

As you may have noticed, I've been less-than diligent with my original blog idea (bad llama), but I've got another idea that I want to try.

Recently I've been thinking that I want to go "back to basics" and just relearn the basic principles of the gospel.  So, I'm going to read the Gospel Principles book and really think about what I'm reading.  I think I'll record some of my thoughts and such on here.

Chapter One:  Our Heavenly Father

"All things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth, and all the things that are upon the face of it, yea, and its motion, yea, and also all the planets which move in their regular form do witness that there is a Supreme Creator."

"Everything that He does is to help His children become like Him."

Comforter

I've decided for the first part of my little adventure I want to learn about Christ as a comforter.  I've got a big white board in my room with my schedule and different goals and things to remember written on it.  A large section is dedicated to my focus for this blog thing.  Right now it says,

"COMFORTER: 'Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

I chose this one because I've been kind of anxious lately about a lot of things.  I feel anxious about not having school to go to when I really like school.  My job is ending soon.  Dating is lame sauce (and it just gets lamer... as cool as that word is).  I'm stressed about grad school, friends, lack of friends, too many "friends", growing up... Everything.

I wrote about it elsewhere, but the song "Be Still My Soul" has brought me a lot of comfort because I know the Lord is on my side and will help me.  He loves me and cares, and He is still in control.  I love that the atonement gave him the ability to comfort me in a way that no one else can.

So, for the next little while, I'd really love it if you guys shared your thoughts on Jesus Christ being a comforter.  I'll be sharing more as I go along, but I'm anxious (in a good way ;) ) to hear your thoughts, experiences, and insights.

The List

You'll probably have to forgive me for the first little while with this thing.  I'm still working on a previous study goal (I'm almost done!), and I'm still not 100% sure on how to go about this.  It's a work in progress, but... We'll hope it works. :)

So for a little while, I've been putting together a list of names for Jesus Christ and difference things I want to learn about Him.  These are the things I want to study this year:

  • Advocate
  • Mediator
  • Judge
  • Creator
  • Exemplar
  • The Good Shepherd
  • Jehovah
  • Lamb of God
  • Light of the World
  • Redeemer
  • Savior
  • Rock
  • The Christ
  • Messiah
  • Prince of Peace
  • Emmanuel
  • King of Kings
  • The condescension and ascension
  • The Atonement
  • The Resurrection
  • Attributes of Christ
Anyone else have any ideas that I could take into consideration?  I'm open to suggestions!  A few of these came from other people, so... please share!

The Beginning: An Introduction

The Person:
My name is Kaylee. I'm a twenty-something-year-old college student in-between adventures (did you like all those hyphens?). I'm a fan of the color burgundy, giraffes, and peanut butter. I love the autumn and the spring, and I'm recently a fan of summer as well. I love Michael Jackson dancing and some of his songs, but I still think he's kind of creepy.

And... the rest I'm still figuring out.

The Project:
I'm starting a project.

It's a new year, and a fitting time, I believe, to start something that I've been wanting to do for a while now.

For the past 8 months, I've been completing internships of one sort or another for school and job requirements. For my most recent internship I've worked with a woman that has taken me under her wing and been a mentor and a friend to me. She has helped me in countless ways, both professional and personal. I think that's one of the amazing things about interning: having a mentor.

So for the year 2012, I've decided to start a mentorship with the Savior, Jesus Christ. Who better than Him to help me figure out my life in this changing and turbulent time? I've believed in Him my whole life, but it wasn't until just recently that I realized I know so very little about Him. The person I owe my whole life to is someone I don't really understand.

The Plan:
In an effort to correct that, each month I'm going to be studying something different about my Savior (and potentially more than one thing each month) so that I may come to know Him better, and through that, know myself better.

I've made a list a names for Jesus Christ (and a few other tidbits for good measure). By studying the words of prophets both ancient and modern, I'm going to study and learn as much as I can about the one who knows everything about me.

I'm writing the blog so I can share my discoveries and the things I learn. After all, He's your Savior, too. It won't be professional writing by any means. But it will be me, plain and simple.

Please feel free to comment and share your own thoughts. We learn by talking and sharing. I love comments. They help me know that I'm not just rambling to myself. =)

I hope you'll join me for my year with Christ.
